| The talent show king - who is busy judging the US version in Los Angeles - is rumoured to be popping up at Wembley Arena live during Saturday's show.
Simon, 52 - who hit the roof earlier this year after the X Factor descended into meltdown as it lost more than two million viewers - is said to be ready to comment during or after the final.
Judge Louis Walsh told a newspaper today he would be delighted if Simon made a return to the panel in the next series.
He said: "I am going to be honest, without him there on the live shows it's not the same.
"It's like a big ship with no captain. He's got a great instinct and he tweaks everything."
It is not the first time Simon has used Skype during this year's show.
